Gauteng Chapter News (May 2011)
The 2011 SATS congress has come and gone. It was exciting, educational, funny and
emotional. The organization was done professionally as always, by the events manager
Marianne Oosthuizen and her team. The Gauteng President and her team, worked tirelessly,
alongside Marianne, right up to the last bell, being the best hosts they could be!
We also had tremendous support from the trade. The stalls were all smart, taking
us right into the next century as far as technological developments go. The successful
outcome of any congress has to include our friends from commerce, and as SATS members
we salute you for your ongoing support!
Emotionally we were taken back to our roots when we celebrated Nurses day with the
lamp ceremony on the 12th May. Listening to the beautiful words of the Nurses pledge,
reminded us why we chose this profession, and what our responsibilities are to those
that we care for!
The International flair that was given to our prestigious congress was enhanced
by the presence of our colleagues from the International Federation of Peri-operative
Nurses. Not only did they let us share information about the congress on their website
but their participation as speakers ,brought knowledge and understanding to our
members, on the unique problems that we as peri-operative nurses share globally.
We certainly hope that this is only the beginning of many more such events. The
educational value and the networking between our groups can never be emphasized
enough! I am sure their participation in the pajama party, and joining us for our
Awards ceremony and Gala evening will have given our International colleagues in
site into the way we social, but also honor those that has left a Legacy of Excellence.
Thank you for having your meeting in South Africa!
If you had the opportunity to visit the SATS Stand you would have made contact with
Madeleine and Carol. Not only do they publish our Journal, but they are always there
when we need them at congress time! Thank you! Your support and involvement with
SATS is much appreciated!
It is however with concern that we have noted that although we had a better than
expected number of delegates attending; financially it is becoming more difficult
for members to carry the costs of attending congress. It is important that all SATS
members keep this in mind, and that they will encourage colleagues to join SATS.
Your membership money will assist us to organize the next and the next congress,
and to do it in away that is professional, educational, and of a high standard.
SATS Gauteng wishes to once again thank IFPN, Marianne and her team, all members
of the trade, but mostly you, our members for your ongoing support. All our best
wishes goes to the WESTERN CAPE chapter, we know you will do well! We will see you
all at our next Study day in AUGUST, when we continue to build our Legacy of Excellence!!
