Gauteng Chapter News (August 2010)
Here we are almost at the end of the long awaited 2010!
On the 21st August the Gauteng chapter addressed the theme “Be Legal Wise”. About
80 delegates enrolled for the day – a heart-warming turnout as many of our Government
hospital colleagues were in the middle of a very disabling strike.
The talks included: “History of Medical Law “and “Consent to Operation” - always
very controversial - and there were lots of questions. We learned how “Professional
Conduct Hearings” evolve, and got some insight into the new “Children’s Act”. Sadly
however some of the excitement of the day was dimmed when we heard of hospitals
where nurses were removed forcibly from their places of work, and patients left
unattended in the week running up to the study day!
Thanks to Kimberly-Clark who allowed us to use their facilities, to BBraun Medical
and Medhold who sponsored lunch, and - together with 3M - also exhibited some of
their products. We are grateful for their on-going support.
Our focus now turns to our end of year function, but most importantly to SATS Congress
2011 that has “A legacy of Excellence” as its theme. You have to be there!! All
information will be in up-coming journals, will be available on the website and
from the various SATS Chapters. This is a highlight of the year for all peri-operative
practitioners!
For any queries, please contact Marianne Oosthuizen - our congress organizer who
can be reached at congress@internext.co.za
– and check out the website on www.theatrenurse.co.za.
We are all very excited about the SATS 2011 Congress, and hope you are to!
